Ski Thursday evening Windsor and Sunday Falcon Lake!

Hello All!

Thursday evening at Windsor Park, skate skis and fast conditions, 6:30 pm.

And, how about a windup the season (?) ski on the hills at Falcon Lake this Sunday?

The day has come: a super day of skiing in the green fir trees of Falcon Lake.  The air will smell clean and wonderful!  If you get lost, call Ihor at (204)479-0825, and I will guide you in.  This is real skiing, for all levels of ability.

The plan:

Arrive for 10:30, so we can start to ski for 11:00.  From the far/west side of Winnipeg, plan on 1:45 driving time.  Skiing the high High Lake Trail, or for the little ones, an adventure tour and exploration of rocky and mountainous Picnic Island!

After all have returned and are accounted for, lunch at the chalet, then more skiing or TUBING! until we run out of gas.

The chalet has a full restaurant/kitchen if you choose not to pack a lunch, and there are washroom facilities as well. remember to bring a face covering if you are going inside.

Acceptable Conditions!

We have two weekends worth of skiing to complete Sunday. For the sake of consistent tracks, let’s all meet, all welcome to participate, at Windsor Park Nordic Centre, 1:30 Sunday Feb 27, skate skis (remember those?), looking for big glide and snappy leg extensions!

Blizzard warnings still on: Stay safe and help shovel the neighbourhood!

Hi!

It would be irresponsible to say we will try to show up at a given time Sunday, and there will be a wind!

Planned skiing is off, but if you are an adventurous type, put on touring skis and see what’s going on near your home! Or, shovel snow! Or go to CBC Gem and watch some good ski racing: Canada’s 5th place in men’s team sprint is a suggestion and it’s also a good ski lesson. Jens Burman (Sweden) youtube vlog on his athletes village experience is pretty neat too, click on or cut and paste the link below:

We’ll catch up next week,

Sunday ski will be cold, and postponed!

Hi all of you sturdy skiers:

Sunday will be cold, high of -20 before wind, so we will not organize a ski for tomorrow. A good day to do pushups and stretch while watching ski racing on CBC Gem: they have it all, and Becky is doing commentary. You can see the snow conditions change over the course of two events. Crazy weather.

Stay warm and this block of weather is almost done!

Sunday 1:30 Classic Skis At Wildewood

All are welcome to ski Wildewood! As next weekend is Manitoba championships (in Kenora), some are going, and the first day is classic, we will need to fine-tune one step double pole and fast herringbone, for some this will not be an easy ski: it will require determination! Meet at the usual community club place and we will spend the first half on the SJR river field and steep hills. Mitts are recommended (high of -20-18). I’m wearing mitts.

AND bring a mug for high glucose tea, and cookies.

Thursday night ski canceled

Hello,
With the cold air, I am cancelling tonight’s ski,

Stretch hip flexors and shoulders instead!
Will see everyone for skiing this Sunday, details to follow,

Skate Ski Wildewood 1:30 Sunday, Jan. 30

Hello APJ Track Attackers and Families,

First: session at Wildewood, Jan. 30, 1:30, skis put in at the community club, skate skiing for a change! Get ready and warmed up for some sprints and how to pass: very exciting.

Second ,some events:

Manitoba Championships are in Kenora Feb. 12 & 13, but it’s very COVID sketchy right now, may be a one day event on the Saturday.  It’s fantastic skiing (really really good trails, FIS quality), so you could go ski there anyway anytime and have a great ski.

For us: Feb. 19 & 20 weekend, virtual event challenge.

Canadian Ski Marathon (north of Montreal) http://skimarathon.ca &

Canadian Birkebeiner (Edmonton) https://canadianbirkie.com

Let’s get some APJ skiers into this and the venue will be Wildewood (because we can’t be in Montreal and Edmonton at the same time.  The neat thing is you can ski both events on the same weekend:  how cool is that.  Coach Ihor is putting his reputation on the line and is going for the two day Courier des Bois.

Parents can do this as well!

So pick a distance (2-55 km) and let me know so I can attempt to register skiers, and if you can’t ski it we will need skier support out there.  That means cookies and tea as race fuel.

See you at Wildewood Sunday Jan 30 1:30

Coach Ihor

Fast Rabbit Thursday

Hi APJ Track Attackers, it will be cold but we’ll give it a shot, classic skiing at Windsor Park 6:30 pm, mitts and thicker toques!

Omicron Overload Classic Ski

Hi All,

Coach Ihor will be at Beaudry to ski classic for 75 – 90 minutes! Start time 1:30 Sunday Jan. 9. No distance specified as the snow isn’t terribly fast. And why Beaudry park? Great shelter from the wind and the tracks are very good!

Bring some hot tea, Coach will have some as well but you’ll need a cup. This is your feed to keep you going. All are welcome!

Coach Ihor

More skate technique work Sunday at Wildewood!

Alot of improvement took place last week and I hope to keep up that momentum!

Get you skate gear to Wildewood, same place as before Sunday 1:30, and I would like to get some glide waxing done on everybody’s skis as well: I’m sure the bases are crying for some care by now! I will have a form and table, wax and tools.

Thanks,

Ihor
