NO skiing today Sunday Feb 24

Well!  The wind woke me up at 5:00, causing me to look out the window, causing me to look at the weather forecast and when I saw gusts of 70 km, I began this message!

Sorry, but due to weather beyond our control, we are cancelling skiing today.

Boundary Trails Distance Challenge-February 23, 2019

The weather is shaping up to be BEAUTIFUL on Saturday!  If you’re still not quite sure what to do with the family (or yourself) this weekend, check out this link.  It’s a super fun, free*, family-friendly event outside the city in the wonderful Burwalde Woods.

Our family is attending (and have attended since our kids were quite little) and we always look forward to the abundant food available all day to boost the energy before, during, and after skiing.  (The ski trails are great, too. LOL)  You can come out and ski for as little or as long as you’d like.

If anyone would like a ride, Cory mentioned he has room for 3 passengers.  He’ll be traveling from Headingley, leaving around 7:00 am.  His contact information is:  Mobile:  204.588.8673  Email:  coryabaron@gmail.com

*Suggested donation of $10/person to cover costs of trail use, bathrooms, and a hot pizza lunch.

Thursday Night Headlamp Ski At Beaudry

Hi!

As in previous years we will do the Thursday night ski at Beautiful Beaudry Park, west of Headingley, in the dark with headlamps.  It’s a great experience!

Please meet in the parking lot no later than 6:50 so we can do a head count and start for 7:00, and bring a headlamp!

Classic skiing as there is no skate track,

Thanks,
Coach Ihor

Fast Rabbit Thursday ON!!

Toques/Buffs for pick up & for sale!

Hello APJ members!
How about a toque or buff to keep you extra warm this winter?!?!
You may not know that a free toque (or buff, if you’re one of the older kids in the club) comes with your child’s APJ registration fee.  (I handed them out in January but some families were away that day.)
If your child is registered with APJ this year, please send me an email to arrange pick up of their toque/buff.  (text/phone: 204-899-4839).
We also have some extras on hand if you’d like to purchase any:
Fox toque = $8        (1 left in stock)
Beaver toque = $5       (2 left in stock)
Moose toque = $5         (5 left in stock)
Black (with red) buff = $8         (1 left in stock)
Red (with white) buff = $5        (3 left in stock)

Manitoba Championships, Manitoba Loppet, Cross Country and Biathlon!

Hi, race information below, so keep reading!

We had a great time on the river today, with the second annual “It’s Really Cold, and Marshmallow Roast” day.  AND in case you didn’t know, a bunch of APJ skiers raced in the Manitoba Biathlon Championships, in Falcon Lake, this weekend.  Axelle-Nastassja-Hudson-Hayes-Ailsa-Robert-Jeff-Gina-Katherine: and were successful on the podium! AND the Lau family ski team hammered out the Manitoba Loppet in Pinawa too, APJ was all over the ski calendar today!  Was anyone racing in Davos that we don’t know about?

Several families are heading to the Manitoba Championships next weekend in Kenora.  This is great, as our wee little club will be jamming up the races with a record number of participants!

If you are attending, here is the race notice  And here is the Zone 4 link for registration.  Scrolling through it all will give you race times, distances, registration form link, and locations.  Racers will be responsible for their registration fees.

APJ race support: APJ will take care of ski prep if you can get your skis there!  Coach Ihor will be dealing with the grip & glide and I’m sure Coach Jeff may have some ideas on the glide.  You won’t need to freak out about the ski prep: we can handle it. Also, coaches will help guide your young racers through it if this is their first “big-deal” event.  It will be fun and a big step forward!

If you have any questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to get hold of me, either via email:  ihor@mts.net, or telephone (204) 479-0825.

Thanks, and a monster sized thank you to all the parents and coaches who helped herd skiers this afternoon on the river… I believe that we got everybody home!

Coach Ihor
