Meet at the Assiniboine Park Duck Pond at 1:30pm as usual tomorrow (March 17) for one last APJ ski of the season!

We’ll celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, the lovely Spring weather, and the conclusion of another year of APJ skiing by winding up our session with more than just wagon wheels and hot chocolate…

Please bring a finger-food item to share with our entire group – adults and kids alike! Snacks, appetizers, desserts, etc. are all welcome.

We’ll provide the plates and napkins. But don’t forget your hot chocolate mug.

See y’all tomorrow!

Boundary Trails Distance Challenge-February 23, 2019

The weather is shaping up to be BEAUTIFUL on Saturday!  If you’re still not quite sure what to do with the family (or yourself) this weekend, check out this link.  It’s a super fun, free*, family-friendly event outside the city in the wonderful Burwalde Woods.

Our family is attending (and have attended since our kids were quite little) and we always look forward to the abundant food available all day to boost the energy before, during, and after skiing.  (The ski trails are great, too. LOL)  You can come out and ski for as little or as long as you’d like.

If anyone would like a ride, Cory mentioned he has room for 3 passengers.  He’ll be traveling from Headingley, leaving around 7:00 am.  His contact information is:  Mobile:  204.588.8673  Email:  coryabaron@gmail.com

*Suggested donation of $10/person to cover costs of trail use, bathrooms, and a hot pizza lunch.

Toques/Buffs for pick up & for sale!

Hello APJ members!
How about a toque or buff to keep you extra warm this winter?!?!
You may not know that a free toque (or buff, if you’re one of the older kids in the club) comes with your child’s APJ registration fee.  (I handed them out in January but some families were away that day.)
If your child is registered with APJ this year, please send me an email to arrange pick up of their toque/buff.  (text/phone: 204-899-4839).
We also have some extras on hand if you’d like to purchase any:
Fox toque = $8        (1 left in stock)
Beaver toque = $5       (2 left in stock)
Moose toque = $5         (5 left in stock)
Black (with red) buff = $8         (1 left in stock)
Red (with white) buff = $5        (3 left in stock)

Photos from APJ today

It may have been a cold and dreary day outside but it was a great workout for the Track Attackers and Coaches who showed up to the park today.  Check out the pix.  Way to go APJ!  Now everyone, Let’s do that SNOW DANCE!

Looking for ski gear?

If you’re in need of ski gear, check out our web page:  APJ’s Buy & Sell, as there are a variety of items for sale.  You can email Gina with a list of your items for sale, exchange, or looking to acquire.  (see more details on page).

Also keep in mind the annual CCSAM Swap Shop coming up on Saturday November 17 at Windsor Park Nordic Centre.  It’s a bit like a giant garage sale – with a focus on skiing.  Drop off your used gear ahead of time to sell.  Arrive early on sale day to find the best deals on skis, poles, boots, etc.  Local shops will also be there promoting/selling their products and helping to answer your questions.

APJ Calendar view repaired

Apologies if you were trying to view the APJ Google calendar for the past few weeks but could not see anything except a “busy” notice.  The tech problem is now fixed and you can take a good look at all our APJ events for this year.  (Please remember that all dates are subject to change due to weather, etc.)

Let’s get ready for that first session (Sunday November 11, 1:30pm, Duck Pond meeting place) by registering here, and dusting off the ski gear.  Woohoo! Welcome to another great season!

APJ calendar of events

This season’s APJ calendar of events is now up and running!  Visit the Google calendar on our website to view upcoming events for the year.

NOTE: All event dates are subject to change so keep up to date by “following” our website and receiving regular notices.

Thank you to ALL!

THANK YOU to all members of our APJ ski club!  It was a great season and, despite the strange lack of snow for most of the winter, we still skied a lot and really made the best of it.  Winnipegers are a hearty bunch!

Credit goes to all our PARENTS/CAREGIVERS!  You:

  • got your kids ready & out the door on cold Sunday afternoons!
  • opened an avenue for your kids to learn a new sport/new skills
  • had patience picking your kids up off the snow…again & again!
  • learned new skills yourselves (some as first-time skiers)

And of course a special thank you goes to our devoted COACHES!  Ihor, Jeff, Katherine, Yan, Blaine & Mhairi, Axelle & Nastassja… we so much appreciate your skills, your patience, your direction & creative coaching techniques, the energy you bring to each session, and all the time you devote to the club.

It was fun to meet once again this afternoon for our wind-up and try to recognize each another in regular clothing!  Have a safe and enjoyable summer and we look forward to seeing you again in the Fall.
