APJ session Sunday Nov. 26 at Beaudry Park, 1:30 pm
Hi Everyone,
As mentioned last week we will meet at 1:30 at Beaudry Park (a provincial park, so you should be able to show a park pass on your vehicle if the wardens are around). This will be an exciting day as we will be running and hiking on the trails AND will be given special training on emergencies, smaller Jackrabbits included! This will be great. Also, most important, bring a mug for hot chocolate
Getting to Beaudry Park: ( 25 minutes from Assiniboine Park)
Use the Google map link below, or , from Assiniboine Park, just stay on Roblin, go over the Perimeter Highway towards Headingley, stay on the south side of the river taking you though South Headingley, keep going (!) for maybe 5 minutes and you will be on gravel, 5 minutes later (maybe) you will see a sign for a provincial parks works yard (not Beaudry) the sign after that is Beaudry Park: turn NORTH, or right, here.

Jackrabbits training session is on (!) this Sunday, Nov. 20
Hi Everybody,
We are GO! for this Sunday, 1:30 at the Duck Pond as before, even without snow. Coach Ihor’s group: get ready to go for an interesting excursion. Bring a water bottle belt if you have one and adjust your clothes so the we can manage the heat. Light gloves or mitts plus a thin toque or buff would be a good idea (dress for spring skiing!)
The next week (Nov. 27) we would like to try a run and hike in the woods at Beaudry Park west of Headingley, on the south side of the river.
Thanks, and remember to shake out your gear to see if the stuff still fits.
Coach Ihor

Track Attack Training! Sunday Oct. 23, 1:30 at Westview Park (Garbage Hill)
Hi All,
Track Attackers can meet at the base of Westview Park at the Wellington and Empress end (south side) just north of Polo Park, at 1:30 for a hill training and technique session. Bring last season’s classic length ski poles as we can use these for technique work. Running shoes of course. A water bottle would be a good idea, too.
This will be a good workout and stretching session, so plan on running aggressively for an hour (but with rest breaks).
Thanks,
Coach Ihor

APJ Expedition to Falcon Lake!
Sunday! March 6!
Falcon Trails Resort at the end of the south shore road of Falcon Lake: there will be warm snow and a lot of it! Google Falcon Trails for a map and great resort stories.
Please set up to arrive for skiing at 11:00 am. APJ big group ski will launch then.
There is a very satisfying cafeteria there or bring a lunch and a guitar or mandolin as this is promoted there. After lunch, strap on a helmet and have an absolute scream on a “not a lot of parental supervision required” inner tube slide, or keep skiing!
It’s a provincial park so remember to bring your park pass for the mini van.
Driving time from Assiniboine Park is 1:45,
See you there,
Coach Ihor

Thursday Night at Beaudry Park!
HI!
We are going to go for it: a night ski at Beaudry Park just west of Headingley on the south side of the Assiniboine River. Classic skis, as there is no skate track. If you have a head lamp, bring it along, but the moon is pretty bright right now. Let’s shoot for 6:30 at the Beaudry parking lot, a brisk loop of the south side trails and hot chocolate.
Coach Ihor’s cell phone is 204-479-0825, but the cell service will fade out once we get into the woods.
on google map:
or Ihor’s version of directions: about 25 minutes from Assiniboine Park
- Drive WEST on Roblin and over the perimeter overpass as if you are going to Shelmerdine’s Garden Center,
- Keep driving past Shelmerdine’s and into old Headingley staying on the south side of the river, wind your way within the speed limit through the village,
- past the houses and some barns and then onto a gravel road
- you will pass a Province of Manitoba works yard on your right and you’re almost there,
- Heads Up!, and turn right at the “really easy to drive past it in the dark” Beaudry Park sign, and in 200 m you are there.
and thank you all skiing parents and handlers AND COACHES for a wonderful Cookie event: it was beyond my wildest expectations – and Thank You Coach Rob (what a guy) for the fantastic bibs and flags, shipped all the way from Switzerland!

Sunday Jackrabbits meet at the Hirose Hills
Hi everyone! Today, Sunday 21st of Feb., we’re skiing the hills and some are going to race for cookies.
There will still be skiing even if your rabbits haven’t signed up for the sprints.
Parking: just before the duck pond parking on that big left hand curve, NOT the nature playground of the last few weeks…same start time of 1:30.
And it’s Picture Day, so let’s get everybody out for a record size photo!
See you there with your hot chocolate mugs!
Coach Ihor
