Another Cold One! Jan. 17th session suspended!

Hi All,

I hate to bare this news again, but with the really cold air blowing hard, there will be no rabbits this Sunday Jan. 17. An alternate activity to try with the family if you really want to get out would be Snow Trek at Fort Whyte Alive: starts at 11:00 and admission is free! Click on Snow Trek below to get you there.

Snow Trek 2016

Fast Rabbit Thursday was a big hit, with lots of laps and great glide.  Unless it’s colder than 251 Kelvin (figure that one out, scientists!), we should be doing that again next Thursday.

In the mean time, if you’re not Snow Trekking:  sit-ups, push-ups and dips!

Thanks,

Coach Ihor

Thursday Night Skiing at Windsor is a big GO!

Fast Rabbit Thursdays are back.

These are geared towards getting some kms in on great tracks with different terrain, so be prepared to go go go. A water bottle belt would be a good idea.

As the sprint races this weekend are classic technique, let’s set up for classic skiing- Coach Ihor will bring some grip wax.

Meet at Windsor Park Nordic Centre to be on snow for 6:30, Thursday Jan. 14, which means off snow by 8:00, so you can finish your homework, and skiers are responsible for their trail pass,

Coach Ihor

Sunday’s ski session canceled

Please be advised that due to the colder weather the coaches have had to cancel the afternoon ski session for Sunday January 10, 2016.

Please see the “Is it Too Cold?” link on the website.

We have REAL SNOW now!

We have snow and we have groomed tracks (as long as it doesn’t snow again!)

Skiing is on  for Sunday Dec. 20, 1:30 at the Duck Pond.  Dress for a bit colder weather & prepare for classic skiing this time.

Thanks,

Coach Ihor

Snow Sisters: Female Ski Event!

Are you:

  • female?
  • age 7 or older?
  • interested in learning to ski better?
  • wanting to try a (non-threatening) ski race?
  • willing to spend $10?

If you answered “YES” to any of the above, then this event is for you!

Entitled the Snow Sisters Ski Event, the clinic will take place on Tuesday January 5, 2016.  The “race” will be the following Tuesday, January 12, 2016.  You may choose to ski 2k, 4k or 6k in either classic or skate technique.  Cost is $10.

Click this link to register.  The clinic will led by coaches Sue, Kristin, Lindsay, and Katrina.  Email them for more information if you’d like.

The leaders expect it to sell out very quickly.  There are only 80 spots and they are going fast… So don’t think on it too long!

We will ski in the park Sunday Dec. 13!

Hi All,

We will be on the regular Sunday schedule at the Duck Pond, on Dec. 13, 1:30 pm as usual! (Thanks to a wee bit of snow.)  There is still not enough snow to machine pack effectively but the surface underneath is pretty clean.

Coach Ihor’s group will be working on ski skating again.

Parents/drivers: it will be a busy day in the park as there is a Santa event in the Qualico Family Centre, so count on a rugged parking situation.

Remember to bring your hot chocolate mug, and the temperature will be just below zero, so don’t overdress!

Thanks,

Coach Ihor

Sunday Dec. 6 modifications

Hi Everybody!

We have lost significant snow and it has been replaced wth slushy grass, so because of this we will not hold a Jackrabbit and Bunnyrabbit session (Coach Katherine & Coach Jeff’s group).

Coach Ihor’s group will still be going, but dryland training at the Garbage Hill (officially Westview Park) on Empress St. north of Sargent, for 1:30.

Please dress for running, bring a water bottle and most importantly, ski poles for classic ( better if they are shorter than normal). This will be a challenging and very different session with a lot of time spent on springy strides!

So Coach Ihor’s group at Garbage Hill for 1:30, others get the day off!

Thanks!

Skiing will be great on Grey Cup Sunday!

Hi everybody!

Skiing will be better than last week as the snow has had a chance to dry out a bit.

Track Attackers: plan on doing some fast skate skiing!

Coach Ihor will be handing out grip wax at the start for those that need it.

Coach Rob is needing some assistance in laying out trail markers around the fields tomorrow, so if there are any parents on skis available, that would be a big help.

Thanks and we’ll see you near the Duck Pond like last week, with those hot chocolate mugs!

Coach Ihor

First Ski of the Season!

Coach Ihor has checked out the park and here is the message from him:

Hi everyone:   We will be giving skiing a try this Sunday, November 22!  So pack your skis and a mug for hot chocolate.

Meet at the Duck Pond on Sunday November 22 at 1:30 p.m. for a great time on skis.

On a safety note, Parents, make sure that everyone stays off the duck pond.  It looks frozen but I wouldn’t even try testing it!  And there are no warning signs posted either!

It should be a great day with a temperature around zero!

Coach Ihor

Just a secondary note regarding the PodiumWear website… if you were attempting to order any APJ clothing this past week and had some difficulties, you were not alone!  Their website went down and they are fixing it.

Therefore, the deadline for ordering APJ clothing will now be further extended.  Coach Katherine will inform us all when she gets word from PodiumWear re: a new deadline.

I hope everyone who checked out the Windsor Park Nordic Centre’s SWAP SHOP survived the craziness there today!  I heard it was a bit wild!

See you Sunday.

Gina
