This Sunday, Dec. 3, cancelled

Sad news: the park is temporarily not skiable.  Not much snow anywhere around here.  As such we will not be holding a session Sunday Dec. 3.  With snow in this week’s forecast we hope that enough will fall to allow for next Sunday: cross your fingers!

Track Attack option:Coach Ihor is driving to Falcon Lake’s trails instead to train: any skiers looking for a solid training session on a bit of snow please get in touch with him either email or (204)479-0825.  Leave the city around 9:00 to begin skiing for  10:30-11:00…  bring a beater set of classic skis if you have and plan on classic as the base for skate isn’t there yet.  Also lunch and something to drink as the day lodge is not yet open for business. There are a couple of spots in the Ihor vehicle if that helps.

Thanks,

Coach Ihor

Skiing in the Park Sunday Nov. 26!

Yes, we will be skiing Sunday the 26th, usual time of 1:30 pm.

There is still snow, but a bit crusty (think spring time freeze thaw).  Air temp should be around -6, look at grip wax like last week,  Rode Super Blue or Swix Blue Extra.

Track Attackers should be thinking about ski skating on some very fast crust!  If you have a water bottle belt that would be a good idea, especially Coach Ihor’s group.  Last week a few could have used a drink of water! (The snow  is way too gross and dirty to eat right now.)

We’ll see everybody together at the duck pond hill for 1:30, and don’t forget your hot chocolate mug.

Session this Sunday, Nov. 19 1:30 pm!

Hello Skiers!

We are a GO for Skiing Sunday 1:30 pm in the park.  The ground is getting colder and the snow is drier so getting grip will not be an issue.
On that note Equipment Managers (parents!): if you could grip wax with 3- 4 layers of either

Rode Super Blue, or Swix Blue Extra

that would save a lot of time and put more time into the skiing. If you have no wax grip skis, forget about it.  As per usual we will have some with us to touch up.

Track Attackers (Coach Ihor’s group) grip up for classic as well because we are so going to destroy this weight shift and extension thing that we have been working, on with video feedback.

Don’t forget the hot chocolate mug, because the disposable cups are running out!

Thanks,

Coach Ihor

We are skiing!

HI everybody!

I am super happy to announce that skiing is on (!) at Assiniboine Park this Sunday Nov. 5. Meet at the duck pond or the usual “ditch hill” at 1:30 pm.  Bring dry mitts to use after the session as I anticipate a few snow sculptures going up.  The driving will be exciting so use caution on the roads.  The Park Blvd. and Corydon gate is closed due to construction so the best entry is off Wellington Crescent.

See you Sunday, at  1:30,

Coach Ihor

Postponing the start of the year until next week!

Hi Everybody,

With the strong forecast of wet precipitation, and in consultation with several parents who will be potentially doing some pretty gross laundry (mud and goose debris) it has been decided to hold off on the Sunday Oct. 29 Jackrabbit session until next week, and hopefully a drier forecast.

In the mean time, in preparation for on snow, it’s time to shake out your closets and ski bags and try gear on.  Our website has a buy sell feature (at the top of the home page) for those of you who have gear to move or things that you need.  If gear requests could go out soon that would be great as we have the time to find stuff.

Thanks and we’ll be in touch next week,

Coach Ihor

For the coaches: a licence, and not the 007 type.

Cross Country Canada, in January, put together a licensing program to help track and inform Canada Ski coaches:

http://www.cccski.com/Programs/Coaching-Development/CCC-Coaching-License.aspx

I hope that the summer is going well, and that the skiers are gaining height and lean body mass.  Look forward to a jumbo dryland training event in the fall to get things interesting again.  Remember: the Manitoba Winter Games are coming this March and wouldn’t it be great to see APJ get on the bus to Thompson!
Thanks,
Coach Ihor

Well that’s it for this year!

Hi everyone,

With the very interesting weather over the last 2 weeks, the park’s snow conditions are like skiing the dark side of Neptune.  That means that is the end of the season.  Even Windsor Park has had it.

Thank you to all of the skiers and their families who supported their efforts and accomplishments this season.  We actually pulled off a fair bit of skiing, judging by the wagon wheel and hot chocolate consumption. And, an enormous thanks to the coaches, Katherine, Yan, and Jeff for teaching so many new skiers.  Gina did a super job in running the  website and getting pictures up and thanks to Peter Sim for all of the video footage and editing.

We would like to have a real windup in the near future, as in April, so stay tuned for that announcement: we would like to have a fun and dry location for that one!

Thanks for a super season1

Coach Ihor
