“First Formal Session! (1)” Sunday, 9 November 2014 [Cancelled!]

Hello Jackrabbit Managers,

Today’s session (Sunday, 9 November 2014), known as “First Formal Session! (1)” on our schedule, has now been cancelled!

Sorry for the short notice.

It was the intent of the coaches to hold a session today if the weather conditions were similar to the previous three dryland conditions.

However, this will not be the  case today.  Air temperature is currently forecast to be -6 degrees Celsius with a -13 degree windchill with winds gusting up to 40 kmh from the northwest.  Plus snow.  See http://spotwx.com/products/grib_index.php?model=meteocode&zone=r1.15&tz=-6&title=FPWG11&lat=49.89975&lon=-97.13749 for details.

Oh, also frozen and wet goose poop.

We will try again next Sunday.

Wanted: (More) Jackrabbit Coaches!

Hello Jackrabbit Managers,

I know.  I know.

You watch your kids having fun skiing with the Assiniboine Park Jackrabbits and you say to yourself, “Self:  Gosh, this looks like fun!  All these kids zooming around.  I like to zoom around too on my skis!  And I have been skiing a while.  Gee, I also have pretty decent technique.  Hey, if I became a coach, I could zoom around with all of these great kids on skis, and we would all have have great skiing fun.  I could even teach them a skiing technique or two (or dozen or more).

So, you say, how could I become a certified cross-country ski coach?  Easy!  First, take a two-day course with like-minded skiers, in the comfy Sport For Life Centre building located just kind-of-a-stone’s-throw from the Manitoba Museum (you know, another fun place for both kids and adults alike).  This course, “Introduction Community Coaching (ICC)” is conveniently scheduled for Friday evening, 14 November 2014, and Saturday, 15 November 2014.

See the Cross Country Ski Association of Manitoba (CCSAM) website for details (http://www.ccsam.ca/event/intro-community-coaching-icc-workshop).

Contact Coach Rob (or any of the coaches you already chat with) if you are kind-of-sort-of-interested but want to talk first to find out what might be involved, or if you are already to register.

And yes, we do indeed have enough certified coaches to run the club, but we can always use more!

“Dryland Fun 3″ Sunday, 2 November 2014

Hello Jackrabbit Managers,

Just a reminder that today, Sunday, 2 November 2014, is “Dryland Fun 3”, again meeting at the Assiniboine Park Duck Pond Shelter at 13:30.

Remember the “fall behind” time change that occurred early this morning.

Temperature is forecast to be a balmy +8 degrees Celsius at play time today!  So, please remind you kids to dress in layers so that they may remove clothing once they warm up.

A few things to note…

This website has been undergoing a number of changes over the past few weeks.  Bear with me as I stumble over some of the hurdles that come along with navigating new territory.  The menu now has a drop-down option so please take note of the extra links attached to “About”, “Photo Gallery”, and “Marketplace”.

  1. Please spread the word to your friends and family that they are to FOLLOW this website in order to receive email notifications re: any posts to this site.  All announcements about our ski club will be made through website posts from now on.  Please remind fellow club members about this change.
  2. Registration for APJ will be closing in a few weeks (December). You must register for the club for insurance reasons and so the coaches can contact you when necessary.
  3. A “Buy & Sell” section is now attached to this website.  You can find out more about it under “Marketplace”.
  4. Photos have been posted from Sunday’s dry-land session.
  5. Check out the coaches’ bios and photos.  Every coach took time to write a blurb about her- or himself in order for you to know each one better!  Take time to read their stories.

Today is our first session for 2014-2015!

Just a quick reminder to everyone that today is the very first APJ ski club session (on land, of course!) at Assiniboine Park.  Meet at the Duck Pond Shelter at 1:30 p.m.  Please wear shoes appropriate for “hiking” along the park’s riverbanks.

lost and found items-APJ Potluck (sent 2014-05-25)

Thanks to everyone for the great potluck food today! It was scrumptious and well enjoyed! 🙂

We ended up with a few spoons that belong to ??? Can you verify if they are yours from the attached photo? If so, let me know. They’re at our house now. If we don’t hear back from anyone, we’ll assume they belong to the Tuxedo Community Centre’s kitchen and return them there this week. Thanks.

Have a safe and wonderful summer and see you in the Fall.
