Upcoming Events! and reminder NO Session this Sunday Jan. 6

Hi Everyone! I hope that the holidays were survivable, some are still completing theirs, I am sure.

Reminder that there is no session this Sunday Jan. 6 as most of the coaches and bigger skiers are at races in Thunder Bay.  Great stories when we get back!

Coming up: Fast Rabbit Thursday on for Jan. 10, skate technique, so if you want some tips on skating please come out, 7:00 at Windsor Park. you will need to buy an inexpensive trail pass, voting age members are welcome too.

I encourage all to get out and ski around as the weather will be awesome this Sunday, and you can even meet informally at the duck pond for 1:30 with skis and toboggan and skates, but ski first! Other good places are Larter’s Golf Course near St. Andrew’s, NA Falcon Lake Trans Canada Trail is as good as the Thunder Bay race trails: really really really good.  Beaudry has tracks too!

Coach Ihor, going to bed now so I can wax skis in the morning with the rest of the coaches!

No skiing tonight! Sorry for the extreme short notice but the Windsor trails are closed due to the ice!

Stay home and stay safe,

Happy holidays,

Coach Ihor

Skiing is a go for Sunday!

The snow didn’t melt!!!!

And that means we will be skiing Sunday Dec. 16, 1:30 in the park.
Track attackers: gear up for skate technique, snow will be fast.

Bunny rabbits: same fast snow, so hang on!

Ski Parents: who wants a lesson? I’d like to put together a parent/caregiver session parallel with the rest, let me know,

Remember to bring a cup for hot chocolate,

Coach Ihor

Fast Rabbit Thursday, skate skis

Hey,

Fast Rabbit Thursday (this Thursday of course), 7:00 at the ski racks outside,

Let’s use skate skis this time!

See you Thursday,

Coach Ihor

Sunday in the park! 1:30

Hi Rabbit Managers,

More skiing Sunday 1:30 pm, building on experiences from last week. That was a lot of skis on the snow!

It will be a wee bit colder this Sunday so layer up accordingly, hot beverages too, so remember the mug,

Thanks,

Coach Ihor

Fast Rabbit Thursday Tonight 7:00 Windsor Park

FIrst Fast Rabbit Thursday tonight Windsor Park Nordic Centre 7:00

I suggest classic skis as edges from skate skis might find some rocks.

It won’t be warm so wear something over your face: we will practice a slow 10-15 minute warmup to heat up the lungs before they get opened up!

Some coaches want to talk ski prep so if skiers could go and haul around a bit and coaches talk ski wax inside – I will bring a few tools out to help the discussion.

Thanks,
Coach Ihor  (204)479-0825

We are skiing Sunday!

Yes! It’s actually going to happen!

All skiers: skiing starts Sunday 1:30 at the Assiniboine Park duck pond and On Skis! No running shoes!

Hot chocolate at the end (2:45) so please bring a durable mug to keep the disposables output down,

Very exciting!

Bison Butte Sunday Nov. 25

Hi APJ!

Okay we need to be realistic here: the snow is worse now than last week.  I promise that it will come.

In the meantime, Jack and Bunny Rabbits please (I’m sorry to say this) hold off on coming to the park, unless you want to do the following with the Track Attackers (it’s actually a good and very doable adventure hike!).

Track Attackers, as we still need to keep the bodies moving in spite of the lack of skiing, we will meet at the Cabela’s parking lot, Sterling Lyon Parkway, usual time of 1:30 Sunday, to run the Bison Butte.  Some of you have done this already but with a much longer run to it.  If you have classic poles bring them along.  6 minute jog, 12 minute walk to the base, and then some beautiful vistas of the city from “The Summit”.  Winter conditions of -10c and a bit of wind so dress for a regular snow session with running shoes instead of ski boots.  Look for Coach Ihor’s white wagon with ski box at the west side the parking lot.

Lots of Baba Mary’s race tea after, so bring a mug for recovery!

No Snow! More Dryland for Track Attack!

The snow has not grown over the week. Very sad!

We’re going to repeat last week’s 1:30 Sunday from the Duck Pond workout with a few tweaks, with the track attackers.  I was very very proud of everyone’s efforts and how we learned how to take heart rates. This morning I watched Red River Nordic do the same workout we did last week.

Rabbits: please hold off for one more week, sorry.  We really do want to make the first ski of the season a memorable one for the younger ones, the snow is coming.

Thanks for the patience,

Coach Ihor

Photos from APJ today

It may have been a cold and dreary day outside but it was a great workout for the Track Attackers and Coaches who showed up to the park today.  Check out the pix.  Way to go APJ!  Now everyone, Let’s do that SNOW DANCE!
