Falcon Biathlon!

Okay,

We are expecting a wee bit of rain first thing in the morning but after that: dry! We are expecting a group of around 20!

Start time at Falcon Trails (where we go to ski, is 10:00 am, so if your start your car in Winnipeg at 8:00 you should be okay).

Start time is 10:00 a.m. Falcon Trails chalet
Ends 3:00,

Potluck lunch and hotdogs on the BBQ! If you have some carbohydrates to bring, they will be used up!

You will need to bring:

  • Running shoes, as we are running on trails,
  • A small back pack to carry your things out to the biathlon range,
  • A change of clothing for the ride home, especially if it is raining,
  • A beach towel for cleaning yourself up after training (remember that we are at a beautiful lake!),
  • Water bottle,
  • Mosquito repellant,
  • Sun hat,
  • A capacity to listen and learn! And not from Ihor!
  • It will be a great time,

Coach Ihor

Biathlon reminder for Saturday & Manitoba Marathon

A quick reminder on the Biathlon session this Saturday, and what a Manitoba Marathon!

Skiers are great runners! Who would have known!

We have always had a great history with the Manitoba Marathon, recently with Laurie P and Richard H being key holders to the office, Andy D annually scraping Ihor off the infield at the finish, and at the very beginning decades ago with Jack Sasseville enlisting all the jackrabbits to fit out the finish line for the very first one at the the old Polo Park stadium: the year of running to Headingley and back-very simple but insane!

This year skiers won their categories:
  • Danielle Papin #1 in F60-69 Half Marathon
  • Imogen Naidlersmith #1 in F16-19 Half Marathon
  • Aaron Warkentin #1 in M16-19 Half Marathon
  • Earl Isaac #1 in M60-64 Full Marathon
Honourable mentions from a quick scan of the results:
Murray Carter in the full, Yan Lau in the Half,
Levi Warkentin, and Mattias Klassen both 4th in their categories for the half,
Casey Nelson, Torin the torrent Frith, Tessa Warkentin and Meaghan Smith in the half,
and those very light relay guys who floated by me during my annual cramping and nausea, Hudson, Raphael and James.
And a huge thanks to all that got athletes to the start line and exchange zones and cheered relentlessly: That’s you Kenton, and the MC of the Wolseley exchange zone- Chris Roe- you are the best!
If I missed a name, I apologize, my vision and cognitive abilities are just starting to return. See you soon on roller skis at Birdshill or at the the October training camp!

Biathlon Dryland Learn to Shoot Session

Yes!  Biathlon Session is a go for SATURDAY, June 22.

Start time is 10:00 a.m. Falcon Trails chalet
Ends 3:00,

Potluck lunch and hotdogs on the BBQ!

You will need to bring:

Running shoes, as we are running on trails,
A small back pack to carry your things out to the biathlon range,
A change of clothing for the ride home, especially if it is raining,
A beach towel for cleaning yourself up after training (remember we are at a beautiful lake!),
Water bottle,
Mosquito repellant,
Sun hat,
A capacity to listen and learn! And not from Ihor!

Register here:
Biathlon Canada: https://zone4.ca/register.asp?id=20944&lan=1&cartlevel=0&addfamily=
with BAM and Biathlon Canada as Recreational athletes and as supporters (about $20.) This will allow them to race in the winter if they want.
This is important, as we are using fire arms. All totalled should be $20 for the membership part.

APJ will pick up the event fees (!)

You will need to register with the Biathlon links above so that we are insured for the event, and please email ihor@mts.net so we know how many rifles to prepare. Getting the range ready is a lot of work (it really is) so it’s important to know how many are going to shoot.

Thanks, Coach Ihor

Correction-Potential biathlon session!

I messed up on the number for the Saturday,  not the 23rd but the 22 of June. Still on a Saturday,

Sorry for any confusion,

Ihor

Hello,

How’s the summer so far?  Biathlon Manitoba is proposing a Saturday of Biathlon dryland instruction and practice, Saturday June 22 at Falcon Trails. As they need to know soon (Monday June 3) to put the equipment together, can you send me an email ihor@mts.net, on interest?

Last year was a ton of fun and it opened up some more sport opportunities for our club.  It does involve handling a biathlon rifle and these are handled with great diligence and control by the range supervisors.

So, let me know and I’m sure that we will make it happen!

Thanks,

Coach Ihor

What a season! and lost & found!

HI everyone,

Thank you everyone for surviving, with smiles, a chaotic ski season!

We raced a lot, and some of us are now Manitoba Champions: Hudson McMillan, Hanah Snider, Coach Ihor, Coach Katherine and Coach Jeff too!

A big thank you to our newest coaches: James, Axelle, Nastasja and Wei-An: they really filled in some gaps with smiles and fun and big air jumps in some cases.  They learned well from Blaine and Mhairi!

Parents: thanks for getting the skiers out AND for participating.  We are a “doing it” sport!

Last note lost and found items:

  • Sebastian has someone else’s black Lazle poles 145 cm, as his may have been swapped out at the end of the Shark Attack game. If you have 135 cm poles instead of 145, let me know and we can reunite the owners.
  • Coach Ihor found a black OR (Outdoor Research) headband in his bag.  It would be perfect for running in this weather, so if your wondering where your favourite running headband is, I probably have it- let me know.

Have a great summer everyone!

Coach Ihor

Please bring a finger-food item to share with our entire group – adults and kids alike! Snacks, appetizers, desserts, etc. are all welcome.

We’ll provide the plates and napkins. But don’t forget your hot chocolate mug.

See y’all tomorrow!

Fast Rabbit Thursday! All are welcome!

HI!

Get in the last of the skiing at Windsor this evening, 7:00 start: the building closes in  another week.

We will also be in the park on Sunday, March 17.  Green hats will earn you an extra wagon wheel for St. Patrick’s Day!

Falcon Lake Ski Expedition Day, Sunday March 10

Hello Skiers!

The day has come: a super day of skiing in the green fir trees of Falcon Lake.  The air will smell clean and wonderful!  If you get lost, call Ihor at (204)479-0825, and I will guide you in.  This is real skiing, for all levels of ability.

The plan:

Arrive for 10:30, look for the orange jackets, so we can start to ski for 11:00.  From the far/west side of Winnipeg, plan on 1:45 driving time (remember the time change too).  Skiing the high High Lake Trail, or for the little ones, an adventure tour and exploration of rocky and mountainous Picnic Island!

After all have returned and are accounted for, lunch at the chalet, then more skiing or TUBING! until we run out of gas.

The chalet has a full restaurant/kitchen if you choose not to pack a lunch, and there are full washroom facilities as well.
